Kutcher Files to Divorce Moore, Issue of Prenup Unclear

Celebrities and others with high net worth often make the news due to their high profiles. Divorce between such individuals can be relatively simple affairs, with both parties agreeing to amicably end the relationship; or they may be drawn-out events that continue to drive the people involved into the limelight. All people involved in a high asset divorce should strive to understand their responsibilities and options under the law, perhaps including the value of prenuptial agreements.

Some readers in Denver may have been aware of the very public split that occurred between actors Ashton Kutcher and Dei Moore. They broke up in 2011 and Moore announced she intended to file for divorce, but she never did. Now comes word that Kutcher officially filed the paperwork earlier this month.

The California filing doesn't offer a lot of detail about the split between the 50-year-old Moore and the 34-year-old Kutcher. It cites irreconcilable differences for the reason for the action. It doesn't list a date of separation, however. Nor does it indicate whether any prenuptial agreement exists.

The couple has no children, but Moore has three from her previous marriage to actor Bruce Willis. Willis remarried in 2009 after his 2000 divorce from Moore, and the wedding was attended by Moore, Kutcher, and her children. Kutcher has been seeing another television star, Mila Kunis, recently.

High asset divorces can be complicated affairs as celebrities and others of significant net worth attempt to disentangle finances and go their separate ways. Many different facets of family law come to light during these proceedings, and understanding how each element pertains to one's particular case can help ensure that an amenable settlement is reached that allows each side to get on with their lives as smoothly as possible.
